"We do not realize that LOVE is just a further impetus,
not something that will prevent us going forward.
We do not realize that those who genuinely wish us well
want us to be HAPPY and are prepared
to accompany us on that JOURNEY."

Closer, the movie

I finally watched "Closer" (Julia Roberts, Jude Law and Natalie Portman) last night. It is such a weird movie. I am not sure if I understood its totality although in parts I did get it. A lot of the things they've tackled happen in relationships... love in different degrees, obsession, jealousy, greed, lust, letting go, goodbyes, etc... but it's hard to understand what the director/writer's message is to its viewers. The storyline is quite simple but it makes you think very deeply about love and life. Well, maybe, that's what it's all about! It was made to help us question love, define it for ourselves, and to finally realize who we are, what we want, and how these realizations affect others we meet along the way.

Here's some things to think about:

  • Julia's husband, the dermatologist, said that there are people, like Julia's character in the movie, who likes being unhappy no matter how much they deny it. Happines is right in front of them and yet they will choose something or someone that they know will make them unhappy. They gravitate to the unhappiness, depression, and the drama.
  • Natalie: "I only leave someone when I don't love him anymore." Do we really get over that love? Isn't there always some kind of love that's left in our heart even after we break up or separate with our partner? Could she also mean that we should not leave someone we still love?
  • What does love really mean? Why is it so hard to give sometimes when we ourselves want it?
  • Is there such thing as unconditional love between lovers? Where do you draw the line between obsession, loving someone no matter what, and abuse?
  • How many of us have fallen in love with someone we don't really know? Be together for a few years... break-up... then realize "do you really know who that person was?" You believe everything they tell you, and yet you find out things that surprise you about that person. DO you really know the person you're with right now?
  • Forgive and forget. I wish it's that easy.
  • We all are capable of deceit. What drives us to be that way?
  • The movie ended the same way it started. Four desperate people, longing for love and yet running away from it. Makes me wonder: Do we really learn anything from past mistakes? If we do, why do we end up in the same situation we were in before? Is it fate or choice?

LIFE LESSON: you are your life's architect... but you have a supplier, engineer, contructor, workers, and government permits' department that just keep messing up with your perfect plan. Such is life!

I'll diet tomorrow... (hay naku ilan beses ko na yan narinig noh!)

My co-workers and I went out to have lunch at this really good Italian restaurant to treat one of our student assistants whose now gonna leave us and work on her internship at a law firm. We had such a great time that it took as almost 3 hours to get back to work. It's all cool though coz my department supervisor was with us, too. I had capellini shrimp (shrimp, angel hair, artichokes, sundried tomatoes in white wine sauce) and grean apple salad with candied walnuts. I'm so full that I even have left over for dinner. Everything was so yummy especially the dinner rolls that they serve with the order. Dang! there goes my diet! Oh, well, I'll start again tomorrow. Lol!!!

LIFE'S LESSON: Don't "diet," have a change of eating habits, a change of lifestyle.

I got my evaluation today...

I got my evaluation here at work today. This is the first one I got eversince I started in 2002. The score ranges form 1 to 4, one being the highest. Very rarely does one get a 1, too, coz that just means that there's no more room for improvement. The grade I got was a 2.35, which basically means that I did ok but there's more room for improvement.

The problem lies with me not having much confidence. My boss thinks that I am smart but I get intimidated easily by my pears. She also thinks that I probably feel that being "firm" is negative, which I do sometimes. She says that I need to learn how to say what's on my mind and not let anyone boss me around or intimidate me.

Bull's eye! She got it right. I know what my weakness is, that is having low self-esteem and lack of confidence, and I need to work on it.

LIFE'S LESSON: Always believe in yourself, or else no body else will.

HoW DiD u KnOw? (by Chiqui Pineda)

I remember so well
The day that you came into my life
You asked for my name
You had the most beautiful smile
My life started to change
I'd wake up each day feeling alright
With you right by my side
Makes me feel things will work out just fine
CHORUS
How did you know
I needed someone like you in my life
That there was an empty space in my heart
You came at the right time in my life
I'll never forget
How you brought the sun to shine in my life
And took all the worries and fears that I had
I guess what I'm really trying to say
It's not everyday that someone like you comes my way
No words can express how much
I love you

Thankful...

Eversince Oprah published her very own O Magazine, I have been a loyal subscriber. It has been my ritual to read the very last page before anthything else. Miss O calls it "What I Know for Sure"... where she writes her thoughts about life, the lessons she's learned, and other really meaningful and inspiring topics. One I'll always remember was written sometime in 2002. Oprah says that we should write a list of at least five things we're thankful for each day. She believes that it is when we are thankful that we become more blessed. Here's a list of the things/people I'm thankful for today...

  • blogspot --- for providing free blog sites
  • bloggers --- most especially to the ones on my list of favorites. I learn so much from them.
  • for having several seasonal part-time jobs apart from my full-time job that I truly enjoy.
  • for the wonderful korean bbq dinner i just had... yummy!
  • the little booklet of compilation of "What I Know for Sure" articles included on the 5th year anniversary issue of O.
  • the first person who left a comment on my blog, which I just started this morning. Joe, thank you for being the first. Hope to visit your blog soon (if you provide me the address, of course).
  • the beautiful day here on my beachside town... although I was indoor and asleep for most of the day since i worked from midnight till 8am last night.
  • thankful for great friends from way back in high school and elementary. I do miss them so much since we're miles apart.
  • thankful for the family I have. Too much drama at times but that's just how it is. We all learn from each other I hope.

LIFE'S LESSON: Be thankful... for everything.

The beginning...

I've been meaning to start a blog for quite a while now, yet I always end up just reading other bloggers' site instead of writing my own. At times, I'd rather be a bystander... someone on the sideline... coz it takes me away from the complexities of my life. But the time has come for me to look at my own journey... maybe by writing about it, I can finally find what I've been looking for... my HAPPINESS... my PURPOSE.
